What is it?
Austin Public Health (APH) provides a free 6-week program for adults that meets 2x a week to walk in groups. These groups meet in public places in and are open to everyone who wants to join.
Only 50% of adults get the physical activity they need.
By creating walking groups, we hope to increase working out with others and ease the stress that can come with walking alone. The fear from unsafe neighborhoods and not having company while walking has the potential to be reduced with this program. Research suggests that working out with others can increase motivation and the chance to complete physical activity.
