Increasing daily movement to just 30 minutes a day has many benefits including:
- Improving mental health
- Managing weight
- Strengthening bones and muscles
- Decreasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and hypertension
Increased physical activity does not have to mean a daily exercise class. In fact, daily movement can look many ways: dance in the kitchen with a loved one, play with your children in the park, go for a dip in the pool with friends, explore nearby green spaces and trails, etc. Below are resources that can help you find areas to explore where you live:
Austin Parks and Recreation Department
Nature Rocks Austin – Children in Nature Collaborative of Austin
United Way for Greater Austin – ConnectATX
Texas Children in Nature Network – Top Places to Spend Time in Nature
Organizing activities with friends or neighbors is a great way to get fresh air and increase daily movement. Check out our free programs, and get more information on our Walk TX and More 10-Week Challenge and the Yoga Beginners Series. Walk TX and More can be done virtually or in-person!
