Austin Moves!

What is it?

Austin Moves! is a free 6-week walking program for adults in Austin & Travis County.

This community walking program brings people together to get active, meet others, and explore Austin/Travis County one step at a time. You can walk with friends, family, coworkers, or neighbors — anywhere — and track your progress as a group. It’s a fun, flexible way to stay moving and motivated.

All fitness levels welcome! Walk fast or slow, short or long.

How it works:

For Group Walkers

  • Sign up to walk with a group from your community or lead a group!
  • Austin Public Health will reach out to the group leader to schedule your welcome and information session
  • Groups are led by community Group Leaders
  • Group Leaders choose when & where your group walks
  • Walk 2 times a week, for 6 weeks
  • Use the Attendance form to help us check participation activity and improve the program
  • Receive program updates and reminders from Austin Public Health
  • Participants who stay active throughout the program are eligible for incentives
  • Move more, feel better, and stay healthy together!

For Individual Walkers *NEW this Session*

  • Sign up to walk and select the “Individual Participant (I want to walk on my own)” option
  • Austin Public Health will reach out to schedule your welcome and information session
  • Choose when & where you walk
  • Walk 2 times a week, for 6 weeks
  • Use the Attendance form to help us check participation activity and improve the program
  • Stay active throughout the program to be eligible for incentives
  • Receive program updates and reminders from Austin Public Health
  • Move more, feel better, and stay healthy together!

Frequently Asked Questions


What are the incentives for participating as a Group Leader?
Group Leaders who complete the program will receive a special incentive for stepping up. 🎉

What are the incentives for joining?
Every registered participant will get a free Austin Moves T-Shirt!

How many people are needed to form a group?
A group must have at least 3 participants plus a Group Leader—but the more, the better!

Can we walk more than 2 times a week?
Absolutely! The requirement is 2 walks per week, but you’re welcome to walk more often if your group wants to.

Can we walk longer than 30 minutes?
Yes! Thirty minutes is the minimum, but feel free to go longer if it works for your group.

What if my group misses a walk due to bad weather?
No problem—just make it up on another day that same week.

Can new members join once the program starts?
Yes! People can register and join a group up to 3 weeks into the program.

I don’t live in Austin. Can I still participate?
Yes—as long as your group meets within the City of Austin or Travis County.

What if I don’t have enough people to form a group? Can I still participate?
Yes! Austin Moves now offers individual participant registration, so you can still join the program even if you don’t have a group. Just keep track of your walks and turn in your individual attendance form.
